Economy and workforce

The city is located on the right bank of River Danube as many as 110 kilometers south of Budapest, directly along Route E 73.
The city, which has been inhabited since the Roman Age, has a population of 21.000 today. The population of the economical and social central area (NUTS4) is more than 50.000.
The largest employer of the city and the county has been the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. Owing to this fact the GDP per capita has been the highest in the city of Paks as regards the entire South-Transdanubian region.
The purchase power of the population of the city is the 6th highest between the cities in national relations. As regards the economical sectors, the construction, heavy machinery and chemical industries have had domineering roles, yet agriculture claims a considerable rate as well. More than 1.200 companies have been run in the city and in its economical vicinity.
